10km Lodestone Bridge and 0km
Client: Weyerhaeuser
Owner: Ministry of Forests
Location: Tulameen, BC
Date: May – September 2023
Details: This project included two bridge sites along a remote forestry service road. CEC was responsible for all environmental management and quality management, as well as providing camp accommodations for the crew.
At site K1697 10km Lodestone Bridge, the existing 9m steel girder and timber deck structure was deactivated and removed, with the steel girders salvaged for the Ministry of Forests. CEC then installed a new 12m precast slab girder bridge, supported by pipe columns and precast spread footings. Due to environmental sensitivities at the site, the project included instream works such as channel improvements and the addition of rip rap to protect against erosion and maintain ecological integrity.
At the K46 0km Lodestone Bridge, CEC removed the existing 36m steel girder and timber deck structure and replaced it with a 48m steel girder precast composite deck bridge. The new structure featured cast-in-place concrete footings anchored 12 meters into existing rock on one abutment and driven steel piles on the other. A roller launch system was designed for the superstructure installation due to the limited access for equipment in the tight areas. To mitigate environmental impacts, particularly the risk of debris falling into the stream below, protective tarps were installed beneath the deck during construction.
