Details: The Hwy 8 – Site 10A project scope was to provide pile foundations and temporary support works to support the construction of a new bridge. Work commenced with the supply and installation of temporary sheet piles to retain both abutments, using a CEC-owned 110-ton crawler crane and vibro-hammer. The supply and installation of eight (8) – 914 mm diameter pipe piles required pre-drilling followed by driving the piles using a 144,000-pound hydraulic hammer and LR1300 300-ton crawler crane. After driving, pile clean-out activities were performed to prepare for the installation of rebar cages and concrete. The project was executed by a five-person crew and faced environmental challenges, including snakes on site, high winds, cold mornings, and hot afternoon conditions. Despite these factors, the team completed all work within schedule and with zero safety incidents. The temporary sheet piles will be removed at a later date, following installation of the bridge structure.
